Fair scores 25, No. 22 Syracuse women get first-ever win at Notre Dame, 79-65

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Dyaisha Fair hit four 3-pointers and scored 25 points, Alaina Rice added 19 points and eight rebounds and No. 22 Syracuse beat No. 15 Notre Dame 79-65 Thursday night for the Orange's first road win against the Irish in program history.

Fair made a layup to open the fourth quarter and Alyssa Latham followed with a jumper that made it 55-51 with 8:33 to play and Syracuse (17-2, 7-1 ACC) led the rest of the way. Notre Dame missed nine of its first 10 fourth-quarter shots and seven different Orange players scored in a 16-2 spurt that stretched the lead to 17 with two minutes remaining.

Hannah Hidalgo led Notre Dame (14-4, 5-3) with 23 points. Sonia Citron added 14 on 4-of-17 shooting and Maddy Westbeld scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds before she fouled out with 2:45 to play.

Notre Dame is 19-1 at home against Syracuse and leads the all-time series 39-6.

Syracuse outrebounded Notre Dame 24-13, had a 10-4 advantage on the offensive glass and outscored the Irish 15-0 in second-chance points as the Orange took a 38-32 lead into intermission.

Fair made a 3-pointer to open the second half that gave the Orange a nine-point lead but they went 0 for 6 from the field with two turnovers as Notre Dame scored 10 consecutive points to take a 42-41 lead.

Syracuse, which also beat the Irish 86-81 at home on New Year’s Eve, has won six games in a row.

Fair went into the game tied with Ashley Joens (Iowa State, 2018-2023) for 10th on the NCAA’s career scoring list with 3,060 points and needs just nine to move past Rachel Banham (Minnesota, 2011-16) into ninth.

Syracuse plays host to No. 19 Virginia Tech on Sunday. Notre Dame hits the road to play at No. 8 UConn on Saturday.
