An investigation has been launched after counterfeit money was used in the town centre.

While out on patrols as part of Dorset Police's 100 days of summer campaign, officers from Weymouth and Portland Neighbourhood Policing Team received a report from BID rangers that a person was using fake £20 notes in the town centre.

The incident happened in the afternoon, on Monday July 1.

With the help of CCTV, officers managed to locate a suspect on the seafront

The man is now helping officers with enquiries.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Officers from Weymouth and Portland NPT were on 100 days of Summer Patrol today, when we were alerted via the BID rangers of a person passing fake £20 notes in the town centre.

"Officers from our team, with the help of the town CCTV operators, managed to locate one of the suspects on the seafront. That man is now helping us with our enquiries.

"We would ask businesses to check your days takings. If you feel you have been a victim, then make our team aware using 101."
