A family-run Merseyside brewery has been saved from closure.

Top Rope Brewing, based on Lipton Close in Bootle's Brasenose Road Industrial Estate, announced last month that it would cease trading at the end of June. The brewery, known for its unconventional beers with wrestling themed names, was established in 2016 when Ben Jackson set up the operation in his mum and dad's Childwall home.

The closure was met with an outpouring of sadness from Merseyside's brewing community and beer drinkers. However, Top Rope has now entered into partnership with a firm called Legends Whisky, meaning it can continue trading.

Yesterday (June 28), a statement on X (formerly Twitter) said: "Ben will continue to brew Top Rope beers at the existing brewery in Bootle to continue supplying our existing customers while also exploring exciting new opportunities made possible by this partnership.

"We're beyond thrilled to announce this news, closing the brewery was one of the hardest choices we ever had to make and seeing the massive outpouring of support from fans and customers makes us feel so happy that we get to carry on brewing beer which has had such a positive impact on so many people.

"We'll hopefully see some of you tomorrow for what was supposed to be our final taproom, although it may be our last one for a little while as we figure a few things out, taprooms will definitely be back!

"See you at the (taproom) bar!"

Top Rope was born when Ben and then-business partner Neil Rothwell would brew in Ben's mum Pam and dad Rob's kitchen before an actual brewery was constructed in the garden. After a spell in North Wales, Top Rope moved to Bootle in 2020, where Ben, Pam and Rob produce their range of craft ales.
