Family SUV Goes Up in Flames in Driveway

An SUV suddenly caught fire in the driveway of a family home in Bethesda, Maryland, on Tuesday, May 14, timelapse home security footage shows.

The footage was provided by Philip Hill, who told Storyful his 2015 Nissan Murano spontaneously combusted in his driveway.

Initially smoke can be seen rising from the hood of the car, before the vehicle erupts into flames. Firefighters are shown arriving at the scene and dousing the burning vehicle.

Hill told Fox 5 that while the cause of the fire was still under investigation, he believed that it was caused by the ABS actuator pump seal. Nissan had recalled the part for certain vehicles from 2015 to 2019 due to the potential for leakages that could cause electrical problems and fires in rare cases. Credit: Philip Hill via Storyful
