Family's thanks and request after young man dies in motorcycle sidecar

The family of a man who died in a crash involving a motorcycle sidecar have thanked the racing community for their support following his death. A 24-year-old man from Cornwall died in a crash during a racing competition at the weekend.

The crash occured on a track off Digdog Lane in Frittenden, near Cranbrook in Kent at 6.10pm on Sunday (June 30). The Auto Cycle Union (ACU) said a competitor in the race died at a motorcycle GTSA Grasstrack racing event.

The man, 24, suffered fatal injuries during the crash on the race track with police saying it involved two motorcycle-sidecar combination vehicles and officers are now appealing for information from witnesses. It's as the deceased's family has made a specific request to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

An ACU spokesman said: “There is an ongoing investigation into the circumstances and the family have requested that no footage or pictures of the accident are posted onto social media or sent to them directly.

“They thank the Grasstrack community for their support and ask that they are given anonymity and privacy. The ACU and GTSA Club Committee send its sincere condolences to the family at this difficult time.”

Witnesses, including those with mobile phone footage which shows the collision or the moments leading up to it, should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, reports Kent Live.
