Fans laugh as Meghan Markle friend poses with jam in 'cringe' lawn pictures

A friend of The Duchess of Sussex has been sent a sample pot of her much-anticipated venture into jam making - and sparked a hilarious reaction including ‘Who rolls around on their lawn with a basket of lemons?”. Actress Abigail Spencer, Meghan Markle’s close friend and former Suits co-star, posted a picture on Instagram of herself with the fabled strawberry jam.

The actress captioned the post: “This jam is my jam. A delicious taste of what’s to come indeed… love you so M [strawberry, lemon and cherry emojis] @americanrivieraorchard.”

In a series of pictures she’s carrying the jam in a basket filled with large lemons, and in two other pictures playing with a puppy, while holding it as well. In March, Meghan announced her new business venture with an Instagram teaser video, showing the duchess cooking and arranging white hydrangeas and roses, posted to the new American Riviera Orchard Instagram account.

Abigail’s post sparked some amusing replies with actress Mindy Kaling commenting: “This is like an ad for sunshine and happiness.” Sugerjake1 said: “This jam is cheap looking. What a joke.” Antoinettemaubert added: “So you’ll roll around on the ground with your jam, but you won’t actually eat it? I don’t blame you.”

Boston2va said: “This is so cringe. And not even good staging.” 7year.stitch made the point: “These photos are embarrassing and weird. Who rolls around on their lawn with a basket of lemons?”

Deek said possibly ironically: “@mindykaling Hey ladies! Question & message for our dear sister Meghan regarding the Jam when it goes on sale for the public: We want the fruit bowl & lemon too as an option

”But we know that’d be expensive for her for ONLY jam price/that’s why I think it should be an option! Where we can either buy the bow with jams Or just buy the jams Or even an option where we can buy the jam the bowl & the lemon for an extra price! If she does that it will be a very smart move!”

Emily said: “Imagine being the princess of a whole country and commonwealth only to give it all up to sell a few jars of jam to the unknowns.” Lola added: “I often take a platter of fruit out into the garden to pose with. hilarious.”

Little information has been released about Meghan’s new project but a trademark application filed in February shows the company wishes to offer downloadable and printed recipe books, table wear, textiles, and jams and marmalades, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office website. Harry and Meghan were seen at a fundraising polo match recently in Florida for the duke’s Sentebale charity – with the duchess pictured with another recipient of her jam.

Delfina Blaquier, the wife of Harry’s good friend, Argentine polo player Nacho Figueras, who took part in the event, also posted on Instagram after sampling the gift.

Her jam was labelled “10 of 50” and she posted picture a picture of it spread on bread and another of the jar being held, with the the words “Strawberry jam makes me happy. And I love your jam…”
