Faringdon nursery plants seeds for National Children's Gardening Week

Nursery children in Faringdon have been getting hands-on in the garden following a donation from a housebuilder.

The youngsters at The Old Station Nursery were provided with wildflower seed kits worth £250 by Bewley Homes.

The housebuilder's donation allowed the children to take part in National Children's Gardening Week, which takes place from May 25 to June 2.

A spokesperson from the Old Station Nursery said: "We were thrilled to take part in this wonderful initiative which allows our children to learn something new and have fun at the same time.

"I’m sure they will enjoy watching them grow. The children were very excited to begin gardening with the seeds.

"We are eager to develop the children's understanding by talking about why we care for the environment, by giving them the responsibility to grow their own flowers.”

Sales manager at Bewley, Stuart Locke, visited the nursey and added: "It was lovely to see so much enthusiasm from the children.

"We chose wildflower seeds to help the children understand how important they are to attract bees and help towards a healthy environment.

“We have been involved with a number of school initiatives this year across the south, where we are building new developments, to promote important campaigns in site safety and careers in housebuilding.

"Marking National Children's Gardening Week was another important way to engage with young children."
