Farmer badly injured after falling and getting trapped under quad bike

A farmer has been left injured after becoming trapped underneath his quad bike in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, July 10. The incident happened in North Devon and multiple emergency services attended the rescue, including two fire engines, Exmoor Search and Rescue and ambulance crews.

Emergency services were called around 4.03am to a field in Parracombe. A farmer had fallen from his quad bike and became trapped under it at on his farm.

Emergency teams were able to successfully locate the farmer and began a rescue operation. Fire crews used a winch and digging equipment to extricate the farmer from underneath the vehicle.

The farmer was then taken to hospital for treatment. DevonLive understands that the injured party remains in North District Hospital following this morning's incident.

A spokesperson for South West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 04:03hrs on Wednesday 10 July to an incident near Parracombe. We sent a double-crewed land ambulance and a rapid response vehicle to the scene and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to North District Hospital.”

Devon and Somerset Fire and Recue added: "Fire control received a call from South west ambulance service regarding a person trapped underneath a quad bike in a field in Parracombe.

"Two fire engines Combe Martin and Lynton attended the incident alongside an officer. Fire crews worked with ambulance to successfully extricate the casualty using a winch and digging equipment. The casualty was left in the care on South west ambulance service."

Exmoor Search & Rescue Team were also called. In a statement, it said: "South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust asked the team to assist in the recovery of a #farmer who had fallen from his #quadbike and was reported to be trapped underneath it, in an unknown location on his farm."

Devon and Cornwall Police was made aware of the incident, but did not attend.
