'Teen Mom' alum Farrah Abraham has taken her daughter to events and red carpets
Farrah Abraham’s daughter, Sophia Abraham, was born on TV.
The reality star gave birth to her first and only child on the first season of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant. The single mom said on the season 1 reunion, which aired in 2009, that going from a high school student to a parent was a “big transition.”
While Farrah confessed on the show that “nothing about being a teen mom is easy,” she noted that “everything that I went through, I would not take any of that back,” adding, “[Sophia’s] made me a better person.”
Speaking to PEOPLE in 2016, Farrah shared, “I always try to be very connected with her and be the best mom that I can be.”
The TV personality continued, “I think we have a better communication than my mom and I ever had, and as she gets older we’ll be able to talk and stay close rather than argue and fight.”
Here’s everything to know about Farrah Abraham's daughter, Sophia.
She was born in 2009
Farrah welcomed her daughter, Sophia Laurent Abraham, on Feb. 23, 2009, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The reality star remarked that Sophia was the first baby she ever held. Before being handed the newborn on her episode of 16 and Pregnant, Farrah told the nurse, “I have never held a baby before, so you need to help me.”
Sophia's mom was on MTV
Farrah was a senior in high school while she was expecting Sophia. Her pregnancy and the birth were documented on the second episode of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant. Farrah later went on to star in the network’s Teen Mom series, which was renamed Teen Mom OG.
“Proud of teen mom being so loving and strong! #changingtheworld one tv show at a time!” Sophia wrote in an Instagram caption under a clip from the reality series. “Blessed my mom was open to sharing some of her life on tv for me ❤️❤️❤️.”
Her dad died before she was born
Derek Underwood was Farrah’s ex-boyfriend and Sophia's father. He never had the chance to meet his daughter as he died in a car accident on Dec. 28, 2008, while Farrah was still pregnant.
Recalling his death in her 2012 memoir, My Teenage Dream Ended, Farrah wrote (per E! News), "I got off the phone and tried to calm down, but my mind was racing. Derek was the father of the baby I was carrying inside me. He was my first love, my only true love," adding, "Now Derek was gone forever, and so was my happy ending."
In 2017, Farrah marked Underwood's death anniversary with a tribute on Instagram, noting his and Sophia's similarities.
"December 28th comes every year when we review all of our love, great memories, share stories and know how special Derek was and how all the special and highly favored charisma passed on to Sophia," she wrote.
Sophia visits her dad’s grave
Although Sophia was never able to meet her dad, she has visited his grave.
In a post on her personal Instagram in 2019, Sophia wrote, “I’m thankful for my mom bringing me to see my dad over the years, my family coming with, sharing me the best and sharing stories I wish I could of met my dad I love daddy Derek and so grateful for him watching over me love & peace.”
She’s homeschooled
The Teen Mom alum told PEOPLE in 2016 that she was considering homeschooling her daughter Sophia. At the time, Farrah said, “I know she’s going to be so smart – and she’s gorgeous, she’s everything I could have ever asked for in a child – and getting through that when you’re in high school just means drama with everyone.”
A year later, Farrah revealed to In Touch that Sophia was “doing homeschooling.”
She explained, "I didn't really want to make it about the bullying, dating, those things. It's focusing more on her studies, traveling the world if she wants to do that while she is going to school. She's doing more runway so she'll be at New York Fashion Week. She has a lot going on and this just helps her be the better her."
Sophia has attended model camp
Sophia participated in Coco Rocha’s model camp in the summer of 2023. The four day-long intensive, taught by the supermodel herself, is described as a “boutique master class for models.” According to the CRMC website, “Each participant is hand selected by Coco Rocha herself and availability is extremely limited.”
In a testimony shared on the camp’s Instagram, Sophia said, “As a child star, and now teen, I loved learning from a top professional like @CocoRocha." She also thanked the “pose queen" for “sharing her life lessons!"
She’s joined her mom at awards shows
Sophia has accompanied her mother to awards shows and events over the years.
The mother-daughter duo have hit the carpet together at the MTV Video Music Awards and MTV Movie & TV Awards.
Farrah marked her little girl’s VMAs debut in 2017 with a video from the event, which she captioned: “@sophialabraham 1st @vmas 2017! Proud off my baby! 💕💕💕.”
Sophia has been to a film festival
In 2019, Sophia traveled to Italy for the Venice Film Festival. She and her mom walked the carpet at the J'Accuse screening with Sophia rocking metallic sneakers with an orange dress.
Alongside footage of herself and her daughter on the red carpet, Farrah wrote on Instagram: “Venice Italy Film & Fashion & @sophialabraham took on her first carpet in Italy! 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹.”
She is a singer

Sophia has come to her mom’s defense
Sophia had a message for individuals criticizing her mom online in 2019. "I hope you get karma later in life," the then-10 year old said in a video published by TooFab. "Don't ever do that again because it's wrong, and we all know that it's wrong and that should never happen."
Sophia also praised her mom in the video, saying: "She's always positive. She always makes me happy when I'm sad. And when we go through things like this type of stuff, everything just turns out fine and haters back off.”
