Fashion designer Roberto Cavalli has died aged 83 following a long illness. The Italian, thought to be worth more than £400million, reportedly died at his home in Florence.

He was famous for using python and flamboyant animal prints in his work. He started the company baring his name in 1975, and fans include Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce are among those who love its creations.

He had been dating Swedish model Sandra Nilsson, who is 45 years his junior, since 2014. They welcomed a baby boy, Cavalli's sixth child, last year.

Speaking about the arrival of his son, he explained the name Giorgio was a tribute to his father who was shot by Nazis during the Second World War. He told magazine Novella 2000: "Sandra is doing fine. The baby, who was born a week ago right here in Florence, is beautiful and it was really emotional to see him right after he was born.

"His name is Giorgio, like his grandfather, my father... whom the Nazis shot in the Cavriglia massacre when I was four years old."

Cavalli had two children with his first wife Silvanella Giannoni, Tommaso and Cristina. The couple divorced after 10 years and he married former Miss Europe model Eva Maria Duringer. They had three children - Robert, Rachele and Daniele - together.
