Fatal Attraction finale spoilers follow.

Paramount+ has axed the TV reboot of Fatal Attraction after just one season.

The eight-episode series premiered on April 30 and starred Mean Girls' Lizzy Caplan as Alex Forrest, the role made famous by Glenn Close in the 1987 film.

Joshua Jackson took the role of Dan Gallagher, which was played by Michael Douglas on the big screen, with Amanda Peet playing his wife Beth.

The announcement of Fatal Attraction's cancellation came alongside the news that Kiefer Sutherland's spy series Rabbit Hole has also been axed by Paramount+.

In a statement to Variety, the streamer said: "Fatal Attraction and Rabbit Hole will not be returning for second seasons on Paramount+.

"We want to thank both series’ entire creative teams, crews and the fantastic casts for their dedication to bringing these series to life. Both Fatal Attraction and Rabbit Hole will continue to be available on Paramount+ for audiences to discover."

The final episode of Fatal Attraction had a different ending to the movie version, which left viewers divided.

The series saw Alex's killer not being Dan's wife Beth, but Beth's best friend and business partner Arthur.

The final episode's ending also seemed to set up a potential second season, with Dan's daughter Ellen having developed an obsession with her professor, 15 years after Alex's murder.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Alexandra Cunningham admitted the ending was done to set up a potential second season focusing on Ellen.

Cunningham explained: "The arc I pitched was for a limited series that was going to go out on an 'Oh, shit!' moment that was rooted in somebody with a neurological pathway for a personality disorder going through that much emotional and psychological trauma as a child caused by her father, who is a narcissist, that she’s the dissident of Alex.

"Like a present echo, in a way."

Fatal Attraction is available to stream in full now on Paramount+.
