A man who had both his ears sliced off in a street attack in Blackburn has died in hospital.

Father-of-four Sajed Choudry suffered a number of serious injuries during the incident near his home on Rhyl Avenue, including a collapsed lung and a bleed on the brain.

The 43-year-old salesman had been in hospital since the attack, which happened at around 10.35pm on November 27, when police were called to a “large scale disturbance”.

He underwent a 14-hour operation to have his ears re-attached, using a skin graft from his legs to complete the surgery.

His condition deteriorated when he developed a large blood clot in his heart, and he died from his injuries on Thursday, a spokesman for Lancashire Police said. A post-mortem examination will be carried out.

Mr Choudry’s 24-year-old son, Ashan, was also attacked – he had half of his hand cut off and suffered cuts to his head, but is now recovering.

Sajed’s daughter Mariya Choudry, 22, said two weeks ago that the family was in shock: “I feel totally numb right now. I have lived on that street for 15 years and have never seen anything like it.”

She added that her mother and two younger brothers were incredibly upset.

Rafaqat Ali, 38 and Fazal Ilahi, 62, both of Tenby Close, Blackburn, as well as Sadaqat Ali, 36, of Rhyl Avenue, Blackburn, had earlier been charged with attempted murder.

A 13-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also charged with attempted murder.

They are all due to appear at Preston Crown Court on Monday, December 17.
