As many fans had suspected, it was confirmed by Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) that Madison (Kim Dickens) sacrificed herself by drawing the walkers back into the stadium, ensuring that everyone else could escape.

We didn't actually see Madison's death on screen, but Dickens appeared to confirm on The Talking Dead that she is finished on the show (via The Hollywood Reporter).

"It's so sad. Madison has been an incredible character to play. I feel like I worked my whole career to get to this point to play her. It's been an honour," Dickens reflected, adding that when she was "heartbroken [and] devastated" when she got the news from the showrunners.

"As Kim the actor, I thought, I feel I would cry during this scene but you realise the mother in this scene would impart through subtext, 'I'm OK, don't worry about me. I'm OK, I love you'.

"I think that's what Madison [conveyed] across the lines. She was strong for her daughter," she explained.

Dickens also paid her own tribute to Madison on her Instagram after the episode had aired, saying "she will always be with me".

Fear the Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on AMC on BT TV in the UK.
