Fear the Walking Dead showrunners break down shocking reveal in season 5 episode 7

Fear the Walking Dead dealt a shocking twist in its latest episode, which threw the fate of its most beloved character into question.

*Major spoilers follow – you have been warned*

The AMC series – a spinoff to The Walking Dead – continued its fifth season with an action-packed episode that saw the character of Alicia Clark (Alycia Debnam-Carey) sprayed in the face by blood that she later realised was contaminated with radiation.

Alicia was taking on a large number of walkers when she came into contact with blood from one that had been infected by a nuclear plant meltdown.

Does this the end of the road for the character? It would undoubtedly be a huge decision considering she is one of the show’s longest-standing following the death of her entire family in recent seasons.

Showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg told Entertainment Weekly that it certainly “puts her in a lot of risk and danger”.

“If there’s one thing that we’ve learned over the course of season five is that any exposure to contaminated blood can be dangerous. We’ve seen first-hand the devastating effects that exposure can have.”

They continued: “[This is] not to say that it will put [Alicia] at the same level of exposure as the people from the plant, but it’s definitely cause for concern. This moment is also significant in regards to Alicia’s emotional journey in the season so far. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Alicia go toe-to-toe with walkers contaminated with nuclear radiation. Alicia’s story this season has been about being a protector for the group and the lengths she will go to protect the people she loves — even if it puts her own life at risk.”

Fear the Walking Dead continues in the US on AMC next Sunday.
