Fed chair Jerome Powell gives remarks on economy: Watch live
NOTE: recorded earlier
Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell will give a public update on Wednesday, potentially giving at least a hint for the likely timing of the rate cut expected sometime later this year.
In his remarks last month, Powell indicated that the Fed’s recent upward slope of rate hikes had reached a plateau. By many indicators, the U.S. economy has been performing better than predicted, which might mean that the Fed will put off lowering rates until well into the second quarter.
Chairman Powell is expected to speak at 2:30 p.m. EST.
