The Feeling treats Sheffield to indie pop bangers during their greatest hits show at The Foundry

The Foundry is an intimate venue usually crammed for hordes of Sheffield university students ready to let their hair down on a Saturday night at Poptarts.

But on Monday, a band still going strong after two decades in the music business took to the stage to send fans on a nostalgic trip to the noughties as The Feeling dished out 15 of their greatest hits for their fittingly named 'The Greatest Hits Tour'.

The Feeling released their first single in 2006, which scarily enough means most of the 18-year-old Freshers who usually grace The Foundry dancefloor would have only just been born when the band first hit the mainstream.

The band enjoyed a string of hits in 2006 and it didn't take long for them to arrive, with Fill My Little World coming straight after the opener War's Not Won which is taken from their latest album release San Vito.

It's fair to say not many of the crowd were attuned to the opening song but Fill My Little World transported everyone back to simpler times and a simple pop/rock song that still sounds fresh today a mere 18 years later.

Never Be Lonely soon followed as lead vocalist Dan Gillespie Sells lapped up the crowd singing to pit one side of the audience against the other, with the left definitely winning if anyone wanted to know!

The sixth song saw a mood and vibe change as the bright lights dimmed to leave just Dan and a piano as he crooned his way through Rosé. It was another crowd favourite and showed the variety of songs The Feeling have in their vast catalogue, with Strange another that stood out as more heartfelt and emotional songs in contrast to some of the more blatant and loud pop/rock songs that charted in 2006.

An anecdotal nod to Sheffield came in the form of Everybody's Talking About Jamie as Dan spoke about the love he will always have for the Steel City-based musical that he composed the score for.

I have to admit, I had no idea he was the man behind the music for it and he spoke fondly about everyone at the city's theatre after they helped to spread the word and garner popularity for the hit musical.

Their debut single Sewn was another crowd pleaser and the nostalgia was complete with I Love It When You Call rounding off their 13-song main set.

Of course, there was still room for some more and after some enthusiastic clapping and foot stomping the band returned for an encore of I Thought It Was Over and a cover of Buggles' Video Killed The Radio Star.

It's unusual for a band to end on a cover but there is a sweet story behind it as Dan explained the origins of The Feeling.

After meeting as 16-year-olds, they started playing together but it was a long decade wait until they secured their first record deal and mainstream success.

During that time, they were living in a 'crappy chalet room' in the French Alps around the time of the Millennium and they learnt every pop song they could to practice and jam as a band.

Can you guess which one stuck with them after all these years?

It doesn't matter how many years have passed. The joy of performing was clear to see from every member of the band and for 80 minutes they really did fill our little world right up with an irresistible wave of pop music that has stood the test of time.
