Fern Britton has opened up about the end of her marriage with Phil Vickery, saying it “fell apart”.

The TV presenter announced earlier this year that the couple were splitting after more than 20 years together, saying they would always “share a great friendship” but had decided to go their separate ways.

She addressed the break up during an appearance on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, where she was talking about her new novel Daughters Of Cornwall.

Talking about trying to write her book while a lot was going on in her personal life, Britton explained: “My mum died and my father died and unfortunately Phil and I fell apart, and I had to write this book and get it out on the deadline and I was very late with it.”

“It took a lot to sort of get it out there and then once all that was done lockdown happened and it’s like three months of… I needed that rest,” she said.

Britton and celebrity chef Vickery tied the knot in 2000 and they welcomed a daughter together in 2001. TV star Britton also has three other children from a former relationship.

The pair confirmed the end of their marriage in matching posts on Twitter in January.

Britton’s tweet said: “After more than 20 happy years together, Phil and I have decided to go our separate ways.

“We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children.

“We would appreciate it if our privacy is respected at this time.

“Thank you for your continued kindness and support.”

Britton later said in an interview that she and Vickery “simply needed to follow our own paths”.
