Fierce Winds Interrupt Sydney Sailing Race

A wild storm in Sydney on Saturday, February 18, forced a sailing tournament to cancel its second day of racing after a catamaran sail was lifted into the air.

The race organizers SailGP said in a statement that the weather had caused “significant damage” to at least one of the boats in the competition and that Sunday’s race would be cancelled.

The Bureau of Meteorology said a severe storm carrying damaging gusts hit the Sydney area on Saturday evening.
