FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at a public toilet in Ringwood.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire on Thursday.

The fire service received a call at 9.57am on May 2 that one of the toilets at Ringwood Gateway was on fire.

Two appliances attended the scene, one from Ringwood Fire Station and the other from Springbourne Fire Station.

One hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire.

The fire service said breathing apparatus was used for comfort, positive pressure ventilation, and thermal imaging cameras.

HIWFRS received their stop at 10.20am, and council staff remained on the scene.

A New Forest District Council spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, there has been a fire in one of our Ringwood Gateway toilets.

"We're investigating the cause and determining how to clean, safe, and fully open the cubicles again.

"Only one cubicle has been affected; the rest of the toilets are open."

The cause of the fire is unknown.
