A fire has gutted the roof of a house as smoke billowed across a residential area.

Fire fighters tackled the blaze inside a property in Crawley as crews took to an aerial platform to spray water into the building.

Paramedics also rushed to the scene but no injuries were reported.

Multiple fire engines were sent to Worth Park Avenue just east of Three Bridges to tackle the blaze, partially blocking the road.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled a fire in the roof space of the property using two jets and a hose reel.

“Crews remained on scene damping down and turning over and used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no further hot spots.

“Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service were also in attendance."

Crews left the scene at around 4pm.

The roof of the property could be seen destroyed by fire as firefighters continued to investigate the scene.
