Fire involving SIX lorries on Greater Manchester street

Crews spent six hours overnight tackling a fire involving six lorries. Four fire engines were were sent out to Alice Street, in Swinton, Salford, at around 12.10am today (April 20).

Firefighters worked throughout the night to tackle the blaze. Specialist equipment was used to extinguish the fire, before crews made the scene safe.

Images from the scene show an area taped off by the fire service, outside industrial buildings on Alice Street including a tyre fitting business. A number of fire engines were seen parked along the street, while water was pumped to get the fire under control.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 12.10am on Saturday, April 20, GMFRS crews were called to reports of a fire on Alice Street, Swinton. Four fire engines from Agecroft, Salford and Broughton stations were quickly mobilised to the incident, which involved six heavy goods vehicles.

“Firefighters used four jets, a scorpion, breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera, working throughout the night to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. GMFRS crews were at the scene for about six hours.”
