Firefighters battle blaze Monday

Apr. 23—VALDOSTA — A fire Monday on Blitch Street did about $10,000 in damage but injured no one, firefighters said.

At 9:26 p.m., the Valdosta Fire Department headed out on a fire call at 318 Blitch St., a fire department statement said.

Heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the home. Crews were able to bring the blaze under control; no one was home at the time of the fire, the statement said.

The source of the fire was a bedroom, the fire department said.
