Firefighters Surprise Colleague Injured in California Wildfire as He Leaves Hospital

A firefighter injured while battling the Corral fire in California in early June was greeted by cheers from his colleagues as he walked out of the hospital on Thursday, June 20.

A GoFundMe set up for Brandon Franco, a 22-year veteran of the Alameda County Fire Department, said he was burned on “multiple locations of his body” on June 1 and required surgery.

Video released by the Alameda County Fire Department shows firefighters lined up outside the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose to clap for Franco as he was discharged on Thursday.

“It was a great day for members of the Alameda County Fire Department!” the agency wrote on X. “Engineer Brandon Franco is heading home to continue healing after suffering burns while battling the Corral fire near Tracy.” Credit: Alameda County Fire Department via Storyful
