Fool Me Once, the new Netflix series starring Michelle Keegan and Richard Armitage, has released a series of first-look images.

The eight-part series is based on Harlan Coben's 2016 best-selling novel, with the plot following a grief-stricken mother, Maya (Keegan), who is coming to terms with the murder of her husband, Joe (Armitage).

Her sadness turns to confusion, however, after Joe is spotted inside the house on a nanny-cam. Running concurrently is a strand involving Maya's niece and nephew, who are attempting to find the truth about their mother's death; could the two 'deaths' be connected?

The series also stars Adeel Akhtar as the detective leading the investigation, with the sergeant "grappling with secrets of his own". Joanna Lumley stars as Joe's protective mother, with the cast being rounded out by Emmett J. Scanlan and Dino Fetscher.

"Fool Me Once is a pulse-pounder – a shocking story of how secrets and deceit have the power to bring people together while simultaneously tearing them apart," said Coben of the project. "I can't wait to see how this dream cast brings these characters to life."

Executive producer Danny Brockenhurst, who worked with Coben on the adaptations of The Stranger and Stay Close, said in a statement: "Fool Me Once does not disappoint. Harlan's books are storytelling genius and it's great to be entrusted once more in bringing his gripping stories to life.

"As always with our thrillers, expect twist upon twist and an emotional roller-coaster. Plus, the cast is phenomenal – audiences are in for a treat," he added.

Fool Me Once is the seventh novel from Coben to be adapted by Netflix as part of a 14-series deal, with the other works including Poland's The Woods and Hold Tight, Spanish mystery-thriller The Innocent and French drama Gone for Good.

Fool Me Once will stream on Netflix later this year.
