A new Nuneaton school is starting to appear on the skyline as construction work forges ahead. Huge steels are now in place on land at Top Farm, which will be the home of the Higham Lane North Academy.

Sister of the nearby Higham Lane School, the new academy is set to be open by September next year in a brand new building. It was only a matter of weeks ago when the groundbreaking ceremony took place at the site, off Higham Lane.

Now a new image taken at the construction site shows that the huge new building is starting to take shape. It has been released to coincide with the announcement of who will be the new headteacher at the school.

Kirstie Robinson, who is currently deputy headteacher at Higham Lane School, will lead the new 11-16 secondary school, which will be part of the Central England Academy Trust.

Ben Elliott, chief financial officer of the trust, said: “As part of the initial team who were successful with the bid for the new free school and having led on all aspects of school delivery over a number of years, we are confident that Mrs Robinson’s vision for Higham Lane North Academy combined with her wealth of experience, sustained track record of excellence in educational leadership and her remarkable ability to inspire both students and staff, will drive our new school forward to a successful opening and beyond.

"Throughout her career, Mrs Robinson has demonstrated a remarkable ability to inspire both students and staff, and we are excited about the positive impact she will have in developing our new school.”

Mrs Robinson added: “I am tremendously excited to have this unique opportunity to establish and lead this brand new 11-16 secondary school. Not only will an additional 900 pupils in the Nuneaton area be able to access the broad and balanced knowledge curriculum based on the proven Higham Lane School model but also an innovative education that will encompass digital media, IT, engineering, drama, music and art thanks to the cutting-edge facilities at our phenomenal site at the new Top Farm development.

"I am committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive and high-achieving curriculum and to building exceptional educational experiences for every single pupil at Higham Lane North Academy from day one, ensuring that they have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.”

The school is one of several features across the sprawling site, which will also play home to 1,700 new homes.
