First we had Connell's chain. Now we have Lucius's arms. Who needs a fight to the death in the Colosseum when we've already won at life, thanks to these hunky first photos of Paul Mescal in Gladiator II?

Prepare to be entertained. 24 years after the original film, Gladiator II is coming, and the 28-year-old actor is taking centre stage in a sequel alongside Joseph Quinn, Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington. Set decades after the first film, Paul plays Lucius, the grandson of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, who has been living on the northern coast of Africa outside of reach of the Roman Empire.

When a Roman general threatens his sanctuary, Lucius finds himself a prisoner of the Rome, battered and beaten at the hands of Roman general Marcus Acacius (Pedro).

Yes, it sounds and looks amazing, but there's one particular aspect of the first-look photos at Gladiator II that left fans gasping for breathe. "Paul Mescal’s arms in the new Gladiator film mY GOD," one fan summarised, while another wrote, "The arms, the eyes, the cuts oH PAUL MESCAL HAVE MERCY ON ME."

Others shared similar sentiments on Instagram. "GAGGED," one simply put, while someone else said, "Help." More comments read, "Omg have mercy" and simply, "The hottest thing a man can be is Paul Mescal."

The definition. The sweat. The blood. It's a lot.

The sentiment has only been further confirmed by Pedro, who revealed his tongue in cheek nickname for his fellow actor. "I call him Brick Wall Paul," Pedro told Vanity Fair. "He got so strong. I would rather be thrown from a building than have to fight him again.

"To go up against somebody that fit and that talented and that much younger…. Paul is a big reason as to why I would put my poor body through that experience."

Is it too much to say we would be up for it...?
