First pictures of bus and car head-on smash as Burnley Road in Mytholmroyd shut

A road in Mytholmroyd has been closed following a head-on collision between a car and a bus.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in the A646 Burnley Road, Brearley, following the crash overnight on Friday, May 17. The collision is said to have happened between Moderna Way and Ellen Royd Lane.

Traffic system Inrix says there is now congestion to Midgley Road and Town Gate as diversions have been put in around the road closure.

Images from the scene show the First Bus vehicle sat behind a police cordon next to the dark-coloured car. Both vehicles appear to be significantly damaged.

Another image shows West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service working at the scene. The fire service and West Yorkshire Police have been contacted.

Inrix said: "A646 Burnley Road in both directions closed due to earlier accident, a car and a bus involved between Moderna Way and Ellen Royd Lane. Congestion to Midgley Road and Town Gate as traffic diverts around the closure.

"The accident occurred overnight, head on collision."
