Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho are back together again in the trailer for Disney’s much-anticipated sequel movie “Moana 2.” The film centers on Moana heading out on an unexpected adventure in long-lost waters after answering a call from her ancestors, not unlike the original movie. The Rock reprises his role as demigod Maui, because you can’t have Moana without Maui!

“This is a call from the ancestors to sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean,” Moana says in the trailer.

Now, this sequel isn’t to be confused with the live-action remake of “Moana,” which is set to hit theaters during the summer of 2026. That’s a totally separate film, although The Rock will star as Maui in that one as well.

According to Box Office Mojo, the original “Moana” made $687 million to date, so it’s not hard to see why Disney decided to make another sequel. The OG movie is so beloved by families everywhere.

According to “Deadline,” the sequel was originally developed as a television series before being reworked as “Moana 2.” And while the amazing soundtrack to “Moana” featured original songs written and produced by Lin Manuel Miranda, the score for “Moana 2” will feature new songs from Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear—the famous composing duo who went viral for their stab at a “Bridgerton” musical.

“Moana 2” hits theaters on Nov. 27, 2024, the day before Thanksgiving. And what can make for a better start to the holiday season (and a better Black Friday, to be honest) than seeing this movie?
