A Cambridgeshire village road will be closed to motorists for the next two weeks. Monks Wood Road, in Alconbury Weston, is due to shut for six days between May 20 and June 3 for roadworks.

The works will be carried out by the county council, who will be doing maintenance and repair on the stretch of the road. This will involve using micro-asphalt to help protect it as well as prevent further deterioration and improve skid resistance.

Roadworks and a diversion route will be in place during this period. The closure is in effect from 9.30am to 3.30pm with motorists advised to plan journeys accordingly.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire County Council said: "Monks Wood Road, Alconbury Weston will be closed both ways to all motor vehicles for six days between the 20th May – 3rd June between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm daily for works."

The diversion route will take motorists around the village, including through Woodwalton Lane and Alconbury Hill. It is estimated that this will add around seven minutes as well as five and a half miles onto journey times.
