Hull City are preparing for big a summer of transfer activity as the Tigers look to build on last season's seventh-place finish in the Championship and go one better.

They'll kick-off the new campaign under new leadership after Liam Rosenior's departure and the arrival of German boss Tim Walter, and key to their hopes of success over the next year will be what happens in the window which officially opens this Friday.

While City will need to spend before the window shuts on August 31, there's also the possibility of existing players in their ranks stepping up and performing.

While City do not have a glut of youngsters ready to step in and make their mark on a first team with the demands of promotion, there are some who will be hoping to make the grade and impress the new manager during pre-season.

Andy Smith

The 22-year-old is facing a big season in his development if he's going to make the grade at the MKM Stadium. Perhaps this pre-season is his most important yet. After positive spells on loan at Grimsby Town and Cheltenham Town, Smith knows he must grasp his chance this summer. If Jacob Greaves is to leave, then Smith must battle Sean McLoughlin to become Alfie Jones' first-choice partner.

Stan Ashbee

The teenager made his debut in the FA Cup replay defeat at Birmingham City in January and did not look out of place one bit at the ripe old age of 17. He played 80 minutes at St Andrew's and offered a glimpse of what potential he has at his disposal.

Following in the footsteps of Jacob Greaves, Ashbee collected the Frank Donoghue Academy Player of the Year for the second successive year and will hope to impress Walter during pre-season.

Should Greaves move on this summer, as we expect him to, Ashbee could be a terrific option to step up and be around the first team squad on a more regular basis.

Harry Vaughan

Having burst on the scene in Spring 2023 following his arrival from Oldham Athletic, Vaughan found the going incredibly tough going last season, making just a flurry of Championship outings before being sent to Bristol Rovers for the remainder of the season where he made just eight appearances.

Vaughan has undoubted potential and at the age of 20, still has time on his side and he'll be keen to show Walter his potential over the coming weeks in pre-season and that he's capable of having a big impact in the Championship this season.

Will Jarvis

A winger with obvious potential, but potential that has not yet been fulfilled at City. Jarvis is now 21 and has been a roaring success out in Ireland with Shelbourne where he's on loan until November. Just like 12 months ago, City need wide players and Jarvis, having been playing regularly across the water, could be ready to come back and make his mark.

Xavier Simons

An initial loan signing from Chelsea, Simons struggled for minutes but so highly thought of by Liam Rosenior, City made his move permanent. Despite being spoken about in such glowing terms by Rosenior, he was sent out on loan to Fleetwood Town where he played just 12 times. At the age of 21, the midfielder is another who will be desperate to impress Walter.
