IT can be really difficult to keep children entertained when they are on their school holidays.

So with the May half-term taking place from May 27 to June 2 this year, we have collated some of the best activities in Colchester to keep them happy.

Colchester Zoo is a firm city favourite and can be greatly enjoyed by children and adults alike.

School holiday tickets can be purchased online for £19.95 for children aged between 3-15 years old, with under 3s allowed in for free.

Colchester Castle Museum

Colchester Castle can not only be a brilliant way for your kids to learn about history, its also simply a great place to enjoy a family day out.

Tickets for children are £7.50 for the first child while all additional children can get in for £3.75.

Castle Park

To get a feel for the castle without paying the fees for entry, the park is also a beautiful and vast place for children to enjoy.

Within the park there is a play park which can provide hours of fun for young ones, and the various scenery surrounding it is simply stunning.

Green Island Gardens

Green Island Gardens, located close to Ardleigh, just outside of Colchester, is 20 acres of private gardens with countless trees and shrublands.

Admission prices for children stand at £2.50, so it is a great and affordable way to keep your children entertained.
