‘Our Flag Means Death’ Season 2 Sets October Premiere – Watch Teaser

Max is hoping you’ll bust out the peg leg this Halloween. “Our Flag Means Death,” the streamer’s popular pirate comedy series, will return for Season 2 in October, the streamer announced Wednesday. The season will premiere on October 5, and Max also released a teaser to accompany the date announcement.

Created and showrun by David Jenkins, “Our Flag Means Death” is (extremely) loosely based on the life of Stede Bonnet, a real-life English landowner in Barbados who had a brief and largely disastrous run as a pirate captain in 1717. The show turns Stede’s (played by Rhys Darby) journey to piracy into a sitcom, as the idealistic and inexperienced captain struggles to gain the respect of the crew of his ship, The Revenge. His fortunes look up when he teams up with Ed Teach (Taika Waititi) — better known as the infamous Blackbeard — and the too soon develop an unexpected friendship that turns into love.

The show’s first season ended on a downer note: Stede and Ed were separated, and Ed — believing Stede abandoned him — adopts a crazed new persona and strands most of the Revenge’s crew on a deserted island. The teaser for Season 2, set to Prince’s “The Beautiful Ones,” picks up where the story left off, with Stede going on a quest to reunite with Ed, who has grown increasingly bitter and unstable from the perceived betrayal and begins plotting revenge.

Aside from Darby and Waititi, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon, and Leslie Jones also star in the series. For Season 2, guest stars include Minnie Driver, Bronson Pinchot, Ruibo Qian, Madeleine Sami, Anapela Polataivao, and Erroll Shand. The first two episodes of the season are directed by Jenkins, who executive produces the series with Waititi, Garrett Basch, Dan Halsted, Adam Stein, and Antoine Douaihy.

Season 2 of “Our Flag Meets Death” will debut with three episodes on October 5. Two new installments in the season will premiere weekly on Thursdays, concluding with the seventh and eighth episodes on October 26. Watch the teaser for the season below.
