Flights grounded and planes diverted at Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Operations are suspended at Liverpool John Lennon Airport due to a power failure. The failure is impacting air traffic control, meaning aircraft operations are currently suspended this afternoon.

Engineers are working to resolve the issue. Passengers have been advised to contact their airline for latest information.

There are delays to aircraft departures and one incoming plane has been diverted to Manchester Airport - and another is currently circling the area.

The airport tweeted: "Unfortunately a power failure is impacting Air Traffic Control and aircraft operations are temporarily suspended. Passengers or those meeting flights should contact their airline for the latest flight information. Engineers are working to resolve this asap with up dates to follow."

The airport is popular with passengers from North Wales.
