Florida Locals Stunned to See Fireballs Streaking Across Power Lines During Stormy Weather

Florida resident Carmen Escobar was stunned to see a pair of fireballs streaking across some overhead power lines during stormy weather recently.

“The winds took an electrical post down, causing what we saw in the video,” she told Storyful, adding that her neighborhood in St Petersburg was hit by flooding on December 17.

The fireballs Escobar saw are known as arc flashes, likely caused, according to local meteorologist Paul Dellegatto, “by a fault current in the line which can be caused by strong winds”. Credit: Carmen Escobar via Storyful
