Flyovers set during Armed Forces Day downtown parade

Apr. 30—Flyovers by aircraft have become a regular part of the Armed Forces Day celebration — and pilots are ready to wing their way to McAlester for the 2024 event.

The flyovers are planned to take place during the AFD Parade, set to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, in downtown McAlester.

Armed Forces Day Committee Chairman Jeff Wolf said a variety of aircraft are set to participate in this year's event.

"We will have Warbirds flying over from as far away as Dallas," Wolf said.

More Warbirds are set to fly in from other places, including Tulsa and Holdenville, Wolf said.

Those planning to participate include the 138th Tactical Fighter Wing out of Tulsa, he said.

No air show at McAlester Regional Aiport is planned for this year's AFD celebration.

All of the flyovers associated with Armed Forces Day in McAlester will occur during the Saturday downtown parade, organizers said of the flyover arrangements.
