Manchester City might be rueing the fact they walked away from the Bernabeu without the victory in their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid after taking the lead twice.

Bernado Silva’s smart second-minute free-kick gave the visitors an early lead before an own goal from Ruben Dias and a deflected Rodrygo strike put the hosts 2-1 ahead at the break. Phil Foden cracked in a super strike on 66 minutes to restore parity.

Josko Gvardiol then powered home a wondrous first goal for Man City five minutes later to give the champions a 3-2 lead. But his effort was outdone by a terrific volley from Federico Valverde on 79 minutes to make the score 3-3 ahead of the second leg at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola was already missing two players going into the match and has two new potential absentee concerns after an enthralling battle at the Bernabeu.

Phil Foden

Injury: Leg

Foden was forced off three minutes from time after being kicked in the leg. He told TV afterwards that he thinks it's only a dead leg, with Guardiola revealing that Foden was miffed to be taken off, indicating that the issue is not major.

What Pep has said: "A knock. He was grumpy with me for making the substitutions but he made a fantastic goal.”

Potential return date: Saturday (vs Luton)

Kevin De Bruyne

Injury: Illness

Guardiola said De Bruyne had been dropped to the bench after being sick prior to kick-off. He did not come onto the pitch but was seen celebrating after Foden’s goal, so he looks to be on the mend.

What Pep has said: "Vomits. He feels unwell. I don't know, we make a meeting and he was ready, when we arrive in the locker room starts to vomit and say he's not ready. It's not good news but is what it is.”

Potential return date: Saturday (vs Luton)

Kyle Walker

Injury: Hamstring

Although no timeframe has been specified, Walker was seen undergoing individual training on Monday. He was not taken to Spain but could be back from his problem - picked up on England duty last month - this weekend.

What Pep has said: "It's true that the best player to control a player like Vinicius is Kyle. Unfortunately, he was injured in a friendly game. It is what it is.

"We would love to have him but what can I say. We play with 11 and try to adapt with the players that we have because injuries are part of a long season."

Potential return date: Saturday (vs Luton)

Nathan Ake

Injury: Unknown

Ake has not been seen since coming off with an injury during the Premier League goalless draw with Arsenal. No return date has yet been set for the defender, who was not seen in training on Monday.

What Pep has said: “He is injured. Hopefully, he will be back soon. I don't know exactly the timing. Next games, he won't be ready.”

Potential return date: Unknown
