Football fans across Yorkshire gather to watch England beat Slovakia

Hundreds of England fans gathered in Sheffield's Euro fan park to watch their home team take on Slovakia.

Fans gathered to watch England play Slovakia in the knockout round of the Euro’s tournament, following a draw with Slovenia on Tuesday (June 25).

Fan City welcomed hopeful fans back to the Devonshire Green attraction for an evening full of football, food and pints. Before the live sporting action was broadcast live on the big screen, fans were treated to an afternoon full of live music from Mat Hook, The Rosadocs and the Everly Pregnant Brothers.

The site, billed as the ‘ultimate football fan zone’, has the capacity to hold 4,000 fans and has on site bars and food stalls, including Greek food and burgers, for people to get refreshments while they’re watching the game.

The atmosphere at Devonshire Green was full of anticipation and excitement until Slovakia scored the first goal of the match in the 25th minute. The crowd was sent into dismay. One group of men started jokingly chanting the famous “Southgate you’re the one, football's coming home again” chant.

But all hope wasn’t lost, after a painful 70 minutes without any further goals, and the game entering extra time, Jude Bellingham scored an equaliser for England in the 95th minute and saved England from being knocked out of the tournament.

Bellingham's goal was followed by another from Harry Kane as the game was sent into extra time, pushing England ahead of their opponents and sending them through to the semi-finals of the tournament next weekend.

And Sheffield wasn't the only place watching the action - football fans across Yorkshire gathered to watch the match and there were some very happy fans in Toast Bar, Leeds who were rather excited when they found out that England had made it through.

Tickets for Sheffield Fan City are available here. Entry is free of charge for all non-England matches.
