Foreign Office issues urgent warning for 18 countries including Dubai and Egypt

The Foreign Office has issued a new urgent travel warning for 18 countries, including popular Mediterranean holiday destinations. The government's latest advisory cautions travellers about an increased risk of terrorist attacks in countries around the southern Mediterranean and the Middle East due to heightened tensions following recent events in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Issued overnight, the Foreign Office update warns: "There is rising tension between Iran and Israel. Any military action could escalate quickly and could pose risks for the wider region. If you are in the region, or considering travel to the region, monitor news updates and continue to check FCDO travel advice for updates."

Countries highlighted in the alert include tourist favourites such as the United Arab Emirates, which encompasses Dubai, Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and Tunisia. The warning also extends to Bahrain, Kuwait, Libya, Yemen, Qatar, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Oman, and Lebanon, reports Wales Online.

UK officials have expressed particular concern for British nationals in these areas, stating: "There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. You should remain vigilant at all times."

"UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and advice on staying safe abroad and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack. Find out how to reduce your risk from terrorism while abroad."

The Foreign Office has warned that a terror attack is 'likely' and stated that such attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by foreigners.

The threat of terrorism remains high in the Gulf region with terrorists continuing to threaten attacks. These threats often include references to western interests, particularly targeting UK citizens.

Potential targets listed include residential compounds, military sites, oil and transport infrastructure, aviation interests, crowded places, restaurants, hotels, beaches, shopping centres, and places of worship.
