Forensic Investigation into Madeleine McCann Disappearance Officially Ends

Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have confirmed that they have officially ended their forensic investigation.

Officers tasked with trying to find the missing toddler said that the decision was made after the most recent batch of scientific tests on hairs discovered at the apartment the McCanns were staying in proved to be fruitless.

A source told the Sunday Mirror: “The final forensics were carried out about three months ago but, sadly, they didn’t take us forward.

“There are no plans for any further forensic work to take place.”

Former Prime Minister David Cameron set up Operation Grange - the investigation into Maddie’s disappearance from an apartment complex in Portugal - in May 2011.

The McCann’s had hoped the £12 million operation would provide vital clues as to what happened to their daughter, who vanished in 2007.

It is expected to be scrapped entirely this autumn in the wake of fresh police budget cuts.

Mr and Mrs McCann said: “Until we have answers, until there is news, there will always be hope and we will do everything we can to help find Madeleine.”
