Forest Green Rovers add former Blackpool, Bristol City and Exeter player Rob Edwards to coaching staff

Forest Green Rovers have announced the signing of former Tranmere boss Rob Edwards as a new first-team coach.

The appointment comes just a day after Russell Milton was appointed as the new chief scout of the Rovers.

Edwards joins the Rovers having spent the last six years with the Welsh FA as manager of Wales U19.

The former defender enjoyed a long playing career, playing for the likes of Exeter City, Blackpool and Bristol City over 21 years.

Edwards has previously worked at Cheltenham Town when he was assistant manager to Paul Buckle and left the club in 2015 by mutual consent.

The 51-year-old had a short managerial spell with Tranmere Rovers in 2014 which lasted from May to October.

On arriving at Forest Green, Edwards said: “I’m delighted to be joining Forest Green in what looks set to be an exciting season.

“I’ve loved my time with Wales but it’s time for a new challenge and Forest Green Rovers poses a fantastic opportunity.”
