Former café in Nottinghamshire town opposite author's birthplace goes up for sale
A "lovely" café in a Nottinghamshire town that closed in August 2024 is up for auction. The unit that used to house the White Peacock in Scargill Walk, Eastwood, is available for a guide price of £108,000 plus fees.
The two-storey property, located opposite the D. H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum, sits on a corner plot, "offering great exposure to customers". According to SDL Property Auctions, the company selling the unit, there is potential to convert the property back to residential, subject to the necessary consents.
The unit already has full planning consent for conversion to two apartments. The premises are, however, ideal for a new café, a hair salon or beauticians, according to the auctioneers.
Living above the property while its ground floor operates as a commercial unit is also an option. The sale of the property will take place on Thursday, January 30, at 9am.
The White Peacock closed in August 2024, with many customers praising its delicious food. A Google review reads: "Lovely friendly place with great food, very tasty & great value. Plus it's dog friendly. Well worth a visit."
Another one added: "Absolutely fantastic in all ways - quality, quantity, value for money, plus gluten free for me. Lots of choice, eating inside or taking away."
