Reposting the clip on his Instagram Stories, Adam – who played Victoria's former husband Adam Barton on the soap – joked that his character could come back and "sort" the awkward situation out.

"Ok Adam Barton's coming back to sort this shit out!!" he quipped.

Actor Adam is currently busy on the new reboot of Waterloo Road, and is taking part in the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing. Speaking ahead of the new series of the dancing show, the star admitted he nearly turned the gig down, joking to Digital Spy and other press that he has been rumoured "every f**king year!"

"I'm like, take the hint, guys! The papers were going: 'Adam's doing Strictly this year', and I'm like: 'Am I?!'" he said.

"Because I'd been putting it out there for so many years, when they actually asked me to do it, I was like: 'I don't know if I want to do it now'. But I'm so happy that I did, because it's one of those shows I've always wanted to do.

"It's completely different to every other show I do, because this is a show where you get to learn how to dance. It's a completely different experience and I'm enjoying it so far anyway. This lot are amazing, and the professional dancers. Everyone."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
