Former Emmerdale star Chelsea Halfpenny pregnant with her first child

Former Emmerdale star Chelsea Halfpenny has announced that she is currently expecting her first child.

The actress — who played Amy Wyatt in the ITV soap between 2010 and 2013 and then Alicia Munroe in Casualty between 2015 and 2019 — announced that she and fellow Emmerdale alum turned Waterloo Road revival actor James Baxter are expanding their family.

The actress shared a photo of herself holding her developing baby jump to her Instagram page, writing: "As if renovating a house wasn’t enough, we've decided to grow a baby at the same time! Officially MENTAL @jamesbaxterrealtalk But we are so close to meeting our new little best mate!"

Baxter shared her post to his Instagram stories, adding some heart emojis.

Multiple soap stars sent messages of congratulations in the comments — including current Amy actress Natalie-Ann Jamieson and Hollyoaks' Leela Lomax and Kirsty-Leigh Porter.

Although the couple both starred in Emmerdale, there wasn't any crossover between their stints, and they didn't actually start dating until 2018. They announced their engagement in 2021.

Speaking last year, Halfpenny revealed that they actually met at a drama workshop as teenagers. She fancied him from the off, but her feelings took a while to be reciprocated.

"If you'd told those two teenagers then that they'd be getting married 16 years later, they'd have thought it was mad!" she said.

"I really fancied him and he did not fancy me at all! He's a year older and I thought he was really cool, but I also remember thinking — 'Well, no wonder he's not interested, because he's just so much older than me!'

"...It was [six months after the 2018 National Television Awards] before we got together and this time it was the other way round — he was chasing me! It was soon after we got together that I told him I'd fancied him as a kid. I don't think he believed me to start with!"'

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
