Former Hereford GP among those mourned in Herefordshire

A MEMORIAL service for a Herefordshire doctor and hospice founder has been announced.

City GP Dr Richard Miller saw his dream of bringing hospice care to Herefordshire realised in 1984 when St Michael’s in Bartestree opened its doors.

The former Hereford GP had himself been receiving care from St Michael’s in the past year or so before his death in January.

His is among the death notices published in the Hereford Times on Thursday, April 18.

BAILEY Margaret Elizabeth

Passed away at home, Ruxton Court Farm, Llangrove on 10 March 2024 aged 86. Wife of the late Ivor John Bailey, mother and grandmother.

The funeral service will take place at St Deinst Church, Llangarron, on Thursday 25 April at 12.30pm followed by interment in the churchyard. A celebration of her life will be held at Glewstone Court Country House immediately after the service.

BATER Peter AJ

A final goodnight Peter passed away peacefully on 14th March 2024, age 98 years. Beloved husband of the late Anne. Much missed dad of Gill (Richard) and Sue (Andrew), and loving grandad to Issy, Rhodri, Esmé, Rhiannon and Dulcie.

Sadly passed away on 6th April 2024 aged 80 years. Much-loved by wife Maureen, son Andrew, daughter-in-law Urszula, brother Alan, grandchildren Matthew and Amelie and wider family. In loving memory of John, who passed away peacefully on March 19, 2024, at the age of 89. John was born in Melton Mowbray and moved to Marden with his wife Margaret for his work at Wiggins. He will be greatly missed by his sons Robert and Richard, and all his family and friends.

MILLER Richard

Of Hampton Bishop, died at home on Tuesday 23rd January aged 85. Dr Miller was one of the founding members of St Michael’s Hospice in Bartestree. He later became a Trustee and life patron of the charity. In the past year or so, he had been receiving care from St Michael’s. He had written that this care “exceeded even my wildest expectations”.

Richard’s life will be celebrated during a memorial service at Hereford Cathedral on Friday 10th May at 2pm. The service will be led by the Very Rev Sarah Brown and is open to everyone. There is no requirement to book places, but those wishing to attend are encouraged to arrive at Hereford Cathedral in plenty of time to secure a place.
