Former Liverpool FC star Fernando Torres flooded with support as he shares sad family loss

Fernando Torres has been flooded with messages of support after he announced his dad, José, has died.

The former Liverpool FC striker has shared the sad news on his social media platforms tonight. The 40-year-old took to X and thanked fans for sending messages of support after the family loss.

The post said: "I couldn’t end this sad day without thanking everyone from the bottom of my heart on behalf of my family and myself for so many expressions of affection and respect towards the death of my father. Dad, I will always keep you present, I love you. D.E.P."

Torres started out his career at Atletico Madrid and is currently the manager of the U-19 team. The official Atletico Madrid X account has shared a message of support in response to Torres' announcement.

A translation of the post said: "Fernando, to you and your family, all the love in the world in these very complicated moments from all the red and white fans." Other fans took to the comments to share messages of support after the update.

Ben said: "You'll Never Walk Alone Fernando." Emma added: "My thoughts are with you and your family. YNWA"

Harry commented: "You’ll Never Walk Alone, Fernando." The 40-year-old recently returned to the club to star in a game as Liverpool FC legends defeated Ajax Legends 4 - 2.

The former no.9 left the pitch to a standing ovation after he capped off his performance with a goal in front of the Kop on his reunion with the Reds.
