Former This Morning presenter Fern Britton has shared details of a nasty injury she endured over the weekend.
The TV presenter and author shared a photo of her hand with a plaster over her scaphotrapeziotrapezoid joint (the part below your thumb), with some blood coming through, to her Twitter.
WARNING: Just stabbed my thumb. Using a steak knife instead of scissors to cut string around a bunch of flowers. Went in about a centimetre 🫣 Pulled it out and the inside looks like steak.. sorry are you having supper? Applied pressure, and held up.. not too bad now. 😬 pic.twitter.com/fLS0uqIZHO

"WARNING: Just stabbed my thumb," she wrote. "Using a steak knife instead of scissors to cut string around a bunch of flowers.
"Went in about a centimetre. Pulled it out and the inside looks like steak... sorry are you having supper? Applied pressure, and held up... not too bad now."
Fans shared their concern for Fern in the comments, suggesting that she might need to get it looked it, while another tweeter admitted that they once tried to open a wine bottle with a steak knife and ended up stabbing themselves in the boob.
Moral of the story: don't use steak knives unless you are cutting a steak.

Fern presented This Morning between 1999 and 2009, having previously hosted Ready Steady Cook.
Britton has spoken about her departure from the ITV show a few years back, stating that it was not due to the pay disparity but that she felt like "a liability" over "gastric band-gate".
"I began not to enjoy it so much and the morning I resigned, I didn't know I was going to resign," she explained in 2020.
"Something happened and I just thought, 'That's it really', and I walked away and resigned. I was treated pretty poorly, actually. And after a while I just thought, 'Sod it'."
In recent years, Fern has presented Watercolour Challenge and written multiple successful novels.
This Morning airs on weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
