A former police officer will appear before a misconduct hearing to face allegations that he drove a car while intoxicated and assaulted another officer.

Former Merseyside Police Constable Idris Saroke will appear before a post-employment gross misconduct hearing to face several allegations of breaching the standards of professional behaviour at the level of gross misconduct. The discreditable conduct allegations are that the former officer drove a motor vehicle whilst intoxicated; made off from the scene of a crash and made off from a police officer.

Former Constable Saroke is also alleged to have assaulted a police officer. Information regarding the upcoming hearing also alleges the former officer was untruthful as to who was driving the vehicle and that he drove a vehicle that was not in a roadworthy condition.

A spokesperson for the force said: "The actions outlined as above jointly and severally have the propensity to bring the police service into disrepute."

The hearing will be held at Merseyside Police Headquarters, on Cazneau Street, Everton, on Monday, June 17. The hearing is scheduled to last two days and will be chaired by Mr Warren Spencer.
