Former Prime Minister Liz Truss loses South West Norfolk seat
Former Prime Minister Liz Truss has lost her seat in South West Norfolk in one of the biggest shocks of the election. Labour's Terry Jermy won the seat with a majority of 630 votes. He received 11,847 votes compared to Truss' 11,217.
Truss was Prime Minister for just 44 days in 2022 and resigned after her disastrous mini-budget. She previously won the seat with a huge majority of 26,195 in 2019.
A crowd at the King’s Lynn counting centre began slow hand clapping as seven candidates lined up on the stage for several minutes – until Ms Truss appeared on the stage without a blue rosette. Truss did not give a speech after her loss was announced. She swiftly left the counting room and left without talking to any members of the press.
