Former Swindon Town, Walsall and Newport County AFC boss Michael Flynn confirmed as Cheltenham Town manager

Cheltenham Town have confirmed the appointment of Michael Flynn as their new manager.

The 43-year-old succeeds Darrell Clarke, who left to take over at Barnsley last week.

Flynn, along with other candidate, was interviewed on Monday and offered the job, as exclusively revealed by Gloucestershire Live on Tuesday.

The identity of Flynn's assistant is yet to be confirmed.

Flynn has previously managed hometown club Newport County AFC, Walsall and Swindon Town.

He left Swindon in January shortly after signing an extended contract.

* Cheltenham Town recruitment analyst Ben Pickford has left the club to join Cardiff City.

* Cheltenham have confirmed a home pre-season friendly against Northampton Town for Saturday, August 3.

They will also play at Bishop's Cleeve (July 5), Bath City (July 9) and Evesham United (July 12). At least one further home friendly will be confirmed in due course.
