Former Torquay United midfielder Ethon Archer joins Cheltenham Town

Cheltenham Town have made attacking midfielder Ethon Archer their ninth new signing of the summer.

The 21-year-old joined National League South club Torquay United from Isthmian League South East Division side Three Bridges last season.

His rapid rise now continues, stepping up another two levels to join the League Two Robins.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity given to me here at Cheltenham and I can’t wait to give it all I’ve got to help make this club successful," Archer said.

“I’m looking forward to working under Gary (Johnson) and Downsey (Aaron Downes) again too as well as the gaffer (Michael Flynn).

"I enjoyed my football back at Torquay and I know how massively they trust me as a player.

“I can’t wait to get going now and to really challenge myself with this being my first ever season in the EFL.”

Flynn said of his latest recruit: "Ethon for me can play anywhere across that front line and he can provide some good width out wide as well.

“He’s impressed during pre-season and I think he’s a player we can work with and improve, which falls in line with the philosophy of the club. He’s going to be a real handful for the players he comes up against.”

Archer has impressed in pre-season training sessions with new boss Flynn's squad and he will play a part in Friday night's opening friendly at Bishop's Cleeve.

Flynn will be taking his full first team squad to Kayte Lane, along with several trialists and academy players.

Forwards Aidan Keena and Matty Taylor are the only players who will not feature.

Keena has not yet resumed full contact training after shoulder surgery, while Taylor was affected by a hamstring problem at the end of last season and will not be risked on an artificial playing surface.
